I let my passport expire and want to get a new one, but I know I have to get a stamp and wording I believe? Can someone describe the process and explain how to do it? What was your experience like?

You will simply send in your application for renewal as normal. The new passport comes back with the text in the back (pg 23, I think). They know what to do on their end and unfortunately they do it.
Everything is the same as normal butYOU HAVE TO INFORM THEM THE YOU ARE A COVERED SEX OFFENDER in a letter submitted with the application. If not you will recieve a passport without the stamp and will have to return it, with a letter, and two additional photos. No additional costs, just additional waiting!
I did this in the beginning of the year and that’s exactly what happened! I now have a valid, stamped passport, just returned from a trip to Italy!
Hello! Just returned from a trip to Romania. With the passport you should send in a letter identifying your status. This is what I was told to do. And had no problem. If you travel without it they can revoke your passport while you’re traveling and you may get stuck. The hardest part was on my return where I was submitted to a very extensive search.
