ok good morning! im currently researching getting dual citizenship usa and portuguese. But ive been told that portugal also puts a RSO identifier in thier passports. can anyone tell me first hand knowledge if this is true? thank you in advnce.
I’m thinking about retiring, from NY, to Lisbon. I dont really want to learn Portugese….I guess this will be a difficulty?
First of all Whoo hoo! I’m half Portuguese thru my grandparents on my mother’s side! From all the research that I’ve done to date the only time you NEED the Portuguese language is if you want citizenship, meaning becoming an official Portuguese citizen as well as maintaining the US citizenship.
That said you can get by speaking English in most of the central places but it is always good to at least try and learn some of the language as it would endear you to the locals. Another thing I’ve learned is that the Portuguese bureaucracy is notorious for being slow, redundant and not English friendly!
Best of everything please keep me posted!
