Hi All, Tier 1 SO forced to register and requiring a stamped passport. Not deemed violent or a predator in my state.
My wife is Chinese and has family in Hong Kong, we are planning on visiting in February 2025 and staying with her family. My question is, has anyone recently visited HK and if so do you have any tips or things to avoid?
Will I be detained, kicked out etc?
Do I need to fly direct from the US to HK or can I have a layover somewhere in Asia?
Don’t Go. You will not be allowed into Hong Kong. Was just denied Entry on the 27th of July.
David, any update on this?
There are conflicting accounts, many saying they get questioned and then allowed in and some saying they aren’t so I guess it is at their discretion depending on past convictions and other circumstances
I have been to Hong Kong a few times in the last 2 years, most recently Nov 2024 and got through without questioning
This time I wish to go may be different because the matrix was updated and says SO’s will be denied entry and also the police here decided to ask HK police to approve an address for me.
Update: Life happens, plans changed. I contacted the US Consulate in HK to inquire about travel.
We’re planning on November 2026. Layover and flight transfer in Taipei because you don’t have to clear customs as long as you don’t leave the airport.
I gotta try going, I’ve never met my Hong Kong Citizen in-laws and we have an infant that they want to meet. I’m traveling with my Father and MIL, MIL is a HK citizen too, Wife is too. I’m hoping they traveling to meet citizen family members and not as a tourist is enough to enter HK albeit maybe with some questions? Idk. We’ll see what the consulate says
I just saw your post, David. I have been to Hong Kong the last three years and was there in June of this year for a week. The last 2 times I went I was pulled aside for secondary screening. Just make sure you have your hotel information, flight information, information of the people you are going to visit, the information of the people you are traveling with, your itenerary and anything else you think might be helpful.
Each time I have gone it was to meet my wife and son who are in the Philippines so I gave all of our information including their passport numbers, flight numbers and showed pictures of us together.
As always just be honest and be prepared but you should be fine.
