If you are a registrant in the USA then you have to give a 21 day notice before traveling. This will generate the notice that is sent out to the country/ies in question that you tell them you’re going to visit. In many countries that will then result in you being refused entry/deported. Won’t matter if your passport is stamped or not. But if you do travel without the stamp (and you are supposed to have it) then you’ll subsequently find that your passport has been revoked and you’ll have to get a new one.
If you try to fly without a marked passport, they will confiscate it at the gate. It happened to me. Had to cancel my trip and get the marked passport a few months later.
Where (specifically) were you traveling and which country confiscated your passport – the American side upon leaving or the destination side upon arriving??
I also have an unmarked passport. I have traveled with it two times, but times giving 21 day notice, no issues.
However, if I understand correctly, the rule used to be that that Angel Watch did NOT inform the State Department of a need for a marker. So it was a bit hit and miss about whether you got one, or if the State Department ever figured out that you were “supposed” to have one.
Now here is where it gets weird. Apparently, under the rules, while Angel watch did not notify the State, it was the responsibility of the passport applicant to inform the State Department. Though good luck finding that written down anywhere.
All this is moot now, because under the new system Angel Watch DOES inform the State Department. Who will either issue with the mark or revoke etc.
At this point, my plan is to go ahead and submit a 21 day notice for an itinerary that is only planned and not booked. That way, if they do revoke my passport and I have to get it reissued, I will have enough time before my “real” trip.
To my understanding, there is no penalty for NOT traveling out of the US.
And I have no intention of playing the “sure hope I’m not out thousands of dollars, because I can’t get a reissued passport in time for my trip” game.
